How to Create a Modern Sanctuary in your Bedroom

Now more than ever it is important to put self-care at the top of the list. The fact that self-love is still treated like a taboo-topic blows my mind! You should never feel guilty for taking time to replenish your soul. Appreciating yourself is the groundwork for valuing others. We all have the desire to be loved, but honestly: How can anyone love you if you don’t love yourself? Loving yourself is more than taking care of your body. It is taking care of your mental health and fostering positivity and wellness in your home.
Make Your home the sanctuary you need.
The first step in loving yourself is identifying your needs. This is especially important for busy professionals juggling the work-life balance, who often put others first because you feel guilty for working as hard as you do to accomplish your professional goals. I know firsthand how difficult it is to take time for ourselves, which is why I’m writing this article to help you find and create a space in your home that exudes self-love and promote self-care.
Our homes must be a place where we feel loved, safe, and inspired. My recommendation is to choose a room where you want to create your sanctuary, choose a space where you can shut off the rest of the world to recharge and clear your head- or, just make yourself feel good. The bedroom is a great place to create your personal oasis, by making a few changes and adding a few special items you can set the tone for creating a sanctuary at home.
Set the Scene
Set the scene that fits your needs with color. Color is the quickest way to refresh any space. For example, if you want your space to be calm and tranquil in the morning for your meditating choose a soft neutral palette to give your space a serene feel. If you want something a little bit more energizing why not combine a neutral palette with a dramatic accent wall to strike the perfect balance.
Modernize the Light
Give the lighting in your room some love and it will love you back every day you’re in it. Swapping your existing builder grade fixtures for a more decorative lighting like a modern chandelier over your bed or a pair of fabulous lamps on your nightstands can transform your room and bring you Joy every time you come into your bedroom.
Another quick way to refresh your bedroom is by stepping up your bedding game. Incorporating beautiful custom bedding or even semi-custom bedding will give-you -life! It will change how you feel when you get up in the morning and how you go to bed at night. When are you opt for luxurious textures, bold bright patterns, or Moody colors…? Do something that makes your heart happy and brings you Joy.
Claim a Cozy Corner
Create a corner to replenish yourself even if for a few minutes per day, a space where you can be calm and tranquil. Find a corner of your room and add a beautiful and comfortable chair to cozy up in, add a scrumptious throw pillow for some support and a soft blanket to help you find comfort. Lighting is always important so add a floor lamp for soft accent lighting and a side table, topped with some flowers, a lovely, scented candle, and a beautiful box, full of your favorite treats like chocolates or whatever it is that brings you Joy. This will be a great place for you to initiate self-care with a glass of wine or a cup of tea and your favorite guilty pleasure like an episode of The Housewives or a chapter of sexy novel I say this as a reminder that self-care is not always about meditating but about doing the things that makes you feel good, recharge, and remind you that you are loved.
Accessorize the details
The last layer to refreshing your bedroom and make it your personal sanctuary is incorporating some beautiful accessories, things that matter to you, and items that have sentimental meaning and bring you Joy. These accessories will make you feel special every time you see them, that, in itself is a big part of nurturing self-love. So, remember to remove the things that does not make you feel special or bring you joy.
My wish for you, is that you will take time daily, to do things that make you feel good. Even 10 minutes of self-care per day, can improve your overall wellbeing in the long run. But you’re worth more than 10 minutes a day, you are the most essential person in your life. Act accordingly, show love, and be open to receive love every moment of everyday.
